If you believe that this campaign is "negative" or that it is "destructive", you have two options.
You could put pressure on your least favorite candidate to quit. Instead of letting the voters decide, you get to decide. Cuz you are just so special.
This is what makes the campaign negative in the first place, but maybe if you pour more hate into the hate, it will make less hate.
Or you could demand that Howard Dean, supposed leader of the Democratic party, draw up some campaign ground rules that will enable this thing to go all the way to the convention if need be, without the two candidates destroying the party along the way.
I am sure Hillary Clinton would be willing to abide by some rules if Barack Obama were held to the same rules.
What is needed is a definition of what forms of campaigning are acceptable and what forms are not. Where does legitimate criticism end? (Of course, we all know the answer to that is "right where it stops hurting Hillary and starts hurting Barry"...)
If Dean would behave more like a leader, I have no doubt that almost every Democrat alive would be willing to stand behind him. Run on issues - or else. Who wouldn't get behind that?
I know some people really don't think that's fair - since Hillary Clinton deserves to have mud thrown at her. The truly dirty campaigners have done a very good job of suggesting that somehow Clinton is not a legitimate candidate. All she has to do is be present to be viewed as divisive. She ought to just stop existing.
For those who say nothing less than her dropping out will do, may I remind you that she has already said she's in this until the convention. She means it. She has that right. And she has people supporting her. That's the real problem. She won't go away because people keep voting for her. So if you really feel the only way she can stop being divisive is to leave now, as if Maureen Dowd deserves to have the final say on who can and cannot become President -
Too bad.
If you don't like the campaign negativity, make Dean do something about it.
Nobody seriously believes that pouring more hate into the hate will make less hate. So stop hating on Hillary Clinton "because she's so divisive".
She has a right to be here. If you want to tangle over that, you better watch out, cuz Hillary knows how to take a punch - and your boy is a crybaby.
