No right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the laws under which, as good citizens, we must live. Other rights, even the most basic, are illusory if the right to vote is undermined.

PWND!

an apology: I keep finding myself repeating The Confluence word for word. I apologize for any copying. It's not intentional. It's just that my thoughts echo theirs on this issue, and also because the writers there put things into words so well that the words stick. (And, of course, the issue of how the Democratic party has been treating its female Hillary supporters is an issue that has been around - and has been discussed - for some time. )

In the news:
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate, a surprising choice that adds youth to the ticket and could help the GOP attract more women voters.
She's attractive, young, has Mom-values - and what fun to hear Obama's fans falling for the trap: empty suit, no experience. Just keep talking, boys....

She's what McCain is offering to those women the Democratic party has been bitch-slapping.

Or, as the Confluence put it:

Regardless of her politics, the choice of Sarah Palin to be McCain’s VP is, in my view, a way for McCain to reach out an olive branch to women voters. Obama has proven that not only does he not care about women’s issues, he fundamentally doesn’t understand them at all. Even worse he has such utter disdain for women that he refused to pick the one person who would have ensured him victory in November. McCain on the other hand has just told the biggest voting block in the nation that while they may have disagreements on issues, even issues that are extremely important to a lot of women, he acknowledges their importance to the governance of this nation, and lets everyone know that he believes a woman is capable of governing the most powerful nation on Earth. And in my opinion that’s a big deal. Why? Because for all of their boasting about being progressive on women’s issues, the Democratic Party has shown through their actions that they don’t buy what they themselves are selling.

(emphasis mine)

The Democrats have been telling us to shut up, submit, obey. Their argument rested on the "battered woman" idea of having nowhere else to go.*

(Boyfriends are always so astonished when women do in fact have somewhere else to go.)

One has to wonder just how long in advance the conservatives planned this outcome.

* The entire campaign against Hillary kept repeating the theme of "go away". Remember how they called Hillary - and by extension her supporters - the "psycho ex-girlfriend of the Democratic party"?

What is a psycho ex-girlfriend but a girl or woman who keeps hanging around and doesn't pick up on the clues that she's not wanted?

The boys have been mocking the girl who can't take a clue when to leave - and now McCain has said, "you're welcome here".
