No right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the laws under which, as good citizens, we must live. Other rights, even the most basic, are illusory if the right to vote is undermined.

losers and retards

You know what the problem is with our Democratic leadership? They ain't never seen the film Down Periscope.

Being intellectuals, they can't appreciate a good "enlisted man's comedy" - dumb, trashy, has at least one fart joke; you know. Aimed at the vulgar masses (or as Democrats say, low information voters).

The scene I am thinking of: the XO asks the submarine's captain, played by Kelsey Grammar, for a transfer off this boat full of "losers" and "retards".

Of course, the joke is that the XO is not self-aware enough to recognize that he himself is not viewed by others as the good leader he imagines himself to be - that others view him as a loser and a retard. He doesn't understand that the concept of leadership is using the available resources to make the desired outcome happen. He never quite understands why things don't work out the way he expected they should - but he never loses his faith that it's their fault. Nothing wrong with him.

Anyone familiar with the traditions of an enlisted man's military comedy knows that this XO is a stock character - there is always at least one of 'em, with his own lack of self-awareness exaggerated as far as it will go (and his tendency to blame his men when things don't go right is always punished, at the end).

And anyone familiar with the traditions of this type of movie knows that the crew will be vindicated. It is never the crew's fault - what they needed was a good leader, someone who would use their abilities (instead of whining incessantly about how they ought to have different qualities and how can anyone work with men like these?) and when Grammar, having proven his worth as a leader, is offered a "real crew" - of course he turns down the offer. There's nothing wrong with the crew.

There's just something wrong with so-called "leaders" who blame their staff for their own repeated failures. Such "leaders" like to assume that when things go wrong, it must be them losers and retards.

Them "low information" types, don'tcha know.

This may be the real reason the military never votes Democratic. They know that incompetence gets them killed.
